20.02.07 John Lord Cheats the Chill at Bakery

John Lord has recently installed their Uragard HT polyurethane resin flooring system at Europe’s largest bakery – Warburtons Tuscany Park facility in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.  The Uragard HT Range has been specially designed to provide hygienic, chemical resistant, slip resistant and easy to clean floor finishes.

To achieve the optimum curing characteristics, this latest polyurethane technology requires certain environment conditions including moderate temperatures.  Programme considerations however, dictated that the floor finish must commence installation prior to the majority of the bakery walls being erected.

Faced with this situation, and with temperatures regularly dipping below freezing, John Lord approached the problem in a novel way by utilising giant tents providing contained storage, mixing and installation areas.  The inflatable tents had artificial heat ducted in providing the ideal installation conditions without the influences of the open surroundings.

At the end of each installation day and proceeding night, during which the system cured at the elevated temperatures, the tents were deflated and re-inflated in the next installation position.  By utilising at least two tents at any time, continuous installation activities were facilitated at a rate of between 120 to 150m2 per shift.
