“The importance of investing in people is sometimes not appreciated at the time, but as the years pass, the benefits become more and more apparent”
In the early 1980’s we embarked upon a recruitment campaign to take on a number of Apprentice Industrial Floor Operatives. This activity has been maintained to this day ensuring constant benefits to our Contracting Department. Many of our installation teams are headed by colleagues who were successful apprentices in the early 1980’s and have progressed through the ranks to lead teams as Crew Foremen.
An important part of the John Lord business culture is training, for both site based colleagues and management. Regular site based “Toolbox Talks” and technical seminars ensure that our site based installation crews are kept up to date with the latest in technical advances and installation techniques.
Health and Safety training is given the highest priority in the John Lord culture. Our site based workforce and management regularly attend courses to aid Health and Safety awareness. Within 2004, employees associated with our contracting activities attended training programmes to obtain IOSH Food Industry Safety Passports and CSCS Construction Industry Site Safety Passports.
The Contracts Department is headed by our Contracts Director Gary Doran, an experienced manager in the construction industry who graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in building. Gary is ably assisted by two full-time site engineers, both of whom have over 15 years experience in industrial flooring. This combination of a fully employed and trained workforce of over fifty employees and an in-house technical and manufacturing facility provide a Total Control Package, dramatically reducing our reliance on outside help and ensuring smooth running and reliable performance.
To further enhance our philosophy of self reliance, John Lord has made a considerable investment to create its own in-house plant department. With over £250,000 investment, our small plant department provide all the plant and equipment needed for our site activities. Our dedicated Plant Manger, Barry Thorpe ensures that the correct plant is supplied to each contract fully PAT tested and in safe working condition.
